2008 Ride for Life Relay

Like many of yours, our family has been touched by cancer. Steve’s Dad died of cancer in 2006 and Melinda lost her brother Steven to cancer last year. Additionally we have immediate family members and friends that have fought cancer and won.

This year marks our 30th wedding anniversary and we have been truly blessed with good health and a wonderful family. As we considered how best to celebrate, the idea of taking an adventure that could benefit others truly resonated with us. We’ve decided to join the American Cancer Society 2008 Ride for the Relay which is a fund raiser to help find cures for cancer.

We are leaving Navy Pier in Chicago on Saturday, September 6 with approximately 41 motorcycles and 57 riders. Our goal is to ride historic Route 66 from its origin in Chicago to its end in Santa Monica, California. This 2,500 mile journey will take us through many small towns as well as some large ones. After this 11 day drive to the Pacific Ocean we will be on our own to decide the best route back home to Zeeland. We plan on being gone for 3 to 4 weeks and traveling a total of around 6,000 miles.

Our daughter Alison helped us set up this Blog to chronicle our preparations and hopefully some our of trip. Please stay tuned for more info!
